Pennsylvania Food Safety Bill Takes Effect January 22, 2011
Gov. Rendell recently signed into law Act 106, which standardizes food safety inspections and strengthens food safety certification requirements for all retail food facilities, restaurants and retail food stores in Pennsylvania. Act 106 takes effect on January 22, 2011.
Under the new law, one certified food employee who is accredited (and maintains accreditation) by a nationally recognized program, such as ServSafe, must be the "person in charge" and accessible at all times during the facility's hours of operation.
Also, after January 22, 2011, the Department of Agriculture will no longer issue food employee certificates. For more information about Act 106, contact the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture at (717) 787-4315 or visit www.EatSafePA.com.
